Sample Saturday – All of the things!

I have been traveling!

image

We were freezing at that O's game, but it was worth it when Manny hit that grand slam! Also, crabcakes, giant wire mosquitos, and random hot air balloon launches all are what Maryland is about. Mostly.

I used a crap-ton of samples while I was gone, so this will be at least two parts.

I get really dry when I’m traveling. Especially in the winter and spring. I used this on dryer parts of my face and mixed it in with an eye cream that just wasn’t doing the job. I really liked it, but I’m not convinced that it did more than other less expensive oils I’ve used.

I tried out a packet of Josie Maran’s Pure Argan Milk a few Sample Saturdays ago, and suspected that I might like it despite the separation of the product. I was right! I used it as a hydrating serum for a couple of weeks. This larger sample allowed me to shake it up. It sunk in right away, didn’t feel heavy or sticky, and wasn’t too much under moisturizer. This may be a good one to pick up for fall and winter next year.

I haven’t had huge success with Fresh, but this serum wasn’t too bad. It didn’t burn or do anything weird to my skin. It seemed to work well with other serums as well. I didn’t hate it, but I wasn’t over the moon with it either. Meh?

Fresh is on a roll! This also wasn’t terrible. I used it as a day moisturizer. It wasn’t super hydrating, but the SPF I use is so this didn’t have to pull all the weight. I don’t think I’d purchase, but it wasn’t bad!

The Tartiest Lash Paint mascara was very good. I got some good length and a little volume, but I didn’t like it quite as much as my favorite Lights, Camera, Lashes. The tube of the sample didn’t unscrew, but snapped together. I didn’t keep it open for very long because I was afraid that this construction would make it easier for air and bacteria to get in there.

I really enjoyed the Agave Lip Mask. I used it at night and woke up with most of it still on. The red one had enough of a tint to it that I felt really silly wearing it to bed, so I didn’t finish that one.

I think we’ll stop here for now and pick this up next Saturday!

Sample Saturday

I kind of like the worst-to-best organization to my last post or two, so I’m going to keep doing it that way!

image

I got these little guys in a Beauteque bag. (They’re the Ladykin Affinitic Snail Cream.) I like snail essence in skin care, but the formulas on these weren’t for me. One was a cream meant for hydration. The other more of a gel for brightening. They both balled up on me right after application. I don’t know if it was the serum I used or if my skin just said, “Nope!” Nice to try, but not for me.

I don’t often use hair masks. Most of them are silicone-laden or too expensive to use on very long hair. Normally coconut oil does the trick. But I had this and decided to try it out. It was a thick, solidified cream that was difficult to spread throughout the hair. Surprisingly, there was enough. The instructions said to leave it in for at least five minutes. By the time I got everything done in the shower that I needed to do, it was about ten. The next three days were a struggle. My hair tangled if you so much as looked at it funny! I finally just braided and bunned it and left it up until the next washing day. I wouldn’t recommend this one for very long, fine, wavy hair like mine.

image

This was just average for me. It wasn’t super moisturizing, but I used it under an SPF, so it didn’t really need to be. I probably won’t purchase it, though.

This one intrigued me. Josie Maran has been an all around hit brand for me this year. I think this product separated in the packet, but i used it anyway. It was so moisturizing, I didn’t need anything else on top. I ended up with a deluxe sample of this in a bottle I can shake up, so we’ll see!

Those are all the samples for this week!

Sample Saturday – So Many Cleansers!

I blew through some samples when we went up to visit my family a couple weeks back!

image

I want to end on a positive note, so I’m going to start with the stuff I didn’t like. First Aid Beauty and I don’t get along. I used this one morning and afterward my mother stopped in her tracks as she walked by and said, “What’s wrong with your face? It looks like you’ve been sunburned!” I stayed that red all day.

image

This one is frothy right out of the package and, obviously, suds up well. It did make me feel dry and tight, but with all the skincare layering I do at night, it wasn’t too bad.

image

This one was pretty average for me. It did the job. Like with most cleansers it left my skin feeling tight but not as bad as the Origins.

image

I have loved everything I’ve tries from Josie Maran so far. The other three cleansers I used with my Clarisonic. This one I didn’t need to. It’s a powder that turns into a cleansing scrub. Its particles are very fine, and it left me feeling clean but not dehydrated. I was using some skin care that balled up and flaked off overnight and this was adequate to get that all off of my face in the morning.

Sample Saturday – SPFs

I’ve had a historic problem with sensitivity to sunscreens. I’ve been trying out a few, paying attention to ingredients and how my skin reacted.

image

First up is Clarins. Its primary SPF is a physical one, which I usually seem to respond well to. I did have a bit of a tingle upon first application, but it didn’t burn. It was light and it sat well under makeup. I would definitely use it if I got my hands on it again, but I don’t think I would go out of my way to buy it full-price.

image

This burned as soon as it made contact with my skin and began balling up almost as fast. If you are any sort of sensitive, I would totally skip this.

image

Benefit’s also burned, but the texture of the lotion itself was very nice.

image

This was my favorite. It’s a light lotion with a faint citrusy scent and a physical SPF. It was also moisturizing enough to use as a standalone moisturizer in the morning and didn’t interfere with makeup. None of the above really did that for me. I missed it when it was gone, and bought the full size as soon as I could afterward. So yay!
